“Valerie Ellis is a British & Australian artist with a studio near London. Degrees and experience in psychology inform her work as she finds parallels between the experience of the individual mind and the world on the canvas. In the “Not Love” series, Valerie spotlights various false versions of love depicted throughout the history of art. In this film, a painting by Toulouse Lautrec was the starting point for a new work - exposing the ‘love’ we experience in bed as another false promise of happiness. Follow the process of exploring Lautrec’s painting “The Bed, The Kiss” through drawing, pastels and oil paint until a new version is created across two canvases - highlighting the fault line between the two lovers.
